So..... It's been a bit but hello everybody! :) When I saw that Shiro was doing their big anniversary sale I knew I had to get in on that action, and I was soooo excited about the sample packs because you can never have too much variety in your life right?
These all technically shipped like two weeks ago, and I was super duper impressed with how fast everything shipped considering Caitlin must have been swamped with orders. I finally have some time now that school is over to actually start posting regularly on here again, and I figured what better way to start that out than with one of the biggest orders I have ever made with a company.
All Swatches taken in indirect sunlight with NYX primer
*Note: There were a couple eyeshadows in here that were repeated, so what I'm going to do is list them fully once, and then refer back to them when they come up again ;)
Full/Half Sizes (Including Lip Gloss)
Doge
Slightly pink-toned shimmery creamy dogey wonderment
I absolutely love this color so much because it is just such a versatile color to have. I have used it as an allover lid look, a highlighter, and a lip gloss! I'm not normally someone to drop $6 on one shadow but this one was well worth it.
No Men Like Me
Gold-burnished plate cloaked in ashy white
Another new favorite. I really picked this one because I needed more everyday shades, and I really enjoy the fact that this is not a super overpowering shadow but it still has complexities to it. I would strongly recommend getting this one if you are in need of some allover lid shadows.
Five Years Stuck On My Eyes
Smoldering dusty orange-taupey-gray, like late sun on stormclouds, or embers in ash.
I was kind of nervous to be getting this one because I had seen mixed reviews and swatches of it, but it has been a great crease color, and pairs lovely with so many different shadows. Not to mention I am a huge David Bowie fan and was immediately excited :D
Nic Cage Dyeing Eggs on a Sunny Green Spring Morning
Pale cool pink with a pearlescent shift and soft blue glitter
I never knew Nic Cage could look that intense while dyeing eggs. It is a bit scary when I put this on first thing in the morning and see crazy eyes looking back at me lol. But I really do like this lip gloss and I am a big fan of the marshmallow peep scent it has going on. It works well as a stand alone or layering gloss, but it tends to rub off after about an hour and a half so keep that in mind.
Warm Neutral Samples
Baker's Boy
Shimmery light golden brown with blue sparks
As you can see I am a big fan of this color ;) It is just such a great color to use all the time. I am not a super huge fan of sparkles all the time, but for this color I always make an exception because it just seems to work.
Full of Craft
Soft velvety brown-gold with warm red highlights
Full of Craft has to be one of the most velvety looking eye shadows I have ever seen. It looks like one of those soft fuzzy blankets that I just wanna swaddle myself in.
Chimera
Looks coppery in the jar, then applies as tarnished gold and silver shimmer over a blackened background
I don't know why, but in every order I've ever made from Shiro I have always either ordered, or gotten Chimera as a free sample and that trend continued in this order! I'm not complaining at all because I probably go through the shadow just as fast as I order it.
Farewell, Wherever You Fare
Cold, stoney greyed brown with light shimmer
I've really started becoming a fan of the Hobbit movies because of the fact that I basically own the entire Hobbit collection now. Cool browns are kind of growing on me, and I really enjoy the little bit of sparkle in this one.
A Regular Bear's Meeting
Rich reddened brown with honey shimmer
I don't know why, but this color reminds me of Turkey Coma, but I prefer the gold sparkles over the red sparkles. This has become a really great brown liner color for me on those days when black is just too fierce.
Remake
Shimmery gold-bronze with purple sparks
While I love golds dearly, I feel as though I have too many of them. Remake seems like one of those colors I would only wear if I was going to a fancy event, but I still do really like it!
Star-Crossed
Blackened coppery-brown
Dang son... I was not super impressed with this color when I first saw it in the baggie, but once I swatched it, I knew I was in love. This just screams red lipstick and a martini in my hand!!
When The Thrush Knocks
Late afternoon sunlight: soft coppery yellow-gold with light shimmer
My other great everyday shade!! As you can tell I am a big fan of those light golds that just really give me a nice inner glow. I also have hazel eyes so gold colors tend to bring out the green a bit more and add a very nice contrast.
Mockingjay
Metallic brown-copper-bronze
I'm kind of eh about this color. While I do like the various colors, when it gets put together it's a bit of a glitterbomb. You can't tell but when I was doing the swatch there was shimmer flying everywhere. I'm pretty sure my lungs are 5% more glitterful now.
Queensguard
The matte orange-brown of House Selmy, softened with gentle cream shimmer
While I may not be a huge fan of red colors, I am a fan of this. I don't use red very often so I will probably make this into a gloss and then I can become some sort of badass queen of death and blood. I also noticed that my swatch came out a lot more brown than the one on the website and I'm wondering if it is the way I applied it, or my primer...
Warm Surprise Me Samples
A Terrible Fate
Deep blackened indigo with a satin finish
I already have a shade very similar to this (Attercop, Attercop) but that one is starting to run low so I'm pretty happy to have this nice one to replace it when it runs out!
Destiny's Princess
Shimmery, bright bubblegum pink with gold undertones
Ah pinks... Surprisingly enough this one actually doesn't make me look like I have pinkeye. I like it more without a primer because then it is a bit softer and floaty, but I could see myself wearing it with a primer if I ever needed to look super cutesy.
Smashing Pots
Rich coppery-brown filled with green, blue, and red rupees sparks
Ah yes, another glitterbomb. These are so hard to photograph you have no idea!!! The sparkles just enjoy overtaking every little bit of the picture, but I really do like the shadow overall. I don't know when I'm gonna have to use it, but when I do I am most definitely ready.
Remake
Shimmery gold-bronze with purple sparks
(Found in Warm Neutral Sample Pack)
Forever A LoanBright springy mint green with a cool shift, like the shivers up your spine when you hear your remaining balance
I was cursing myself when I checked out without even trying a single one of the Leaf Trios. I guess fate (and Caitlin) was on my side and I managed to be able to try the one I had my eye on. This is just a really nice spring green color without being too overbearing, and I 100% agree with the description: it sends shivers up my spine when I see my bank balance after an indie shopping spree!
Steve.
Bright, lightly shimmery turquoise
I never knew I would be so into such a bright blue until I met young Steve here. In all honesty I am a bit of a closet Minecraft junkie, so I was pumped to get this color. I really wanna try foiling this out as a liner, because I think it would be a really cool look with some like faint purple eye shadow.
Team Rocket
Bright purple with shimmery blue undertones
Sadly, Team Rocket did not make the final stash cut. While I do enjoy a good satiny purple, this one was just pretty patchy and did not look good on me whatsoever. I wish I was more daring with my color choices, then I'm sure I would love it, but I'm not and it was just not the right color for me.
Glowstick of Destiny
Muted Tesseract blue with strong golden duochrome
Hnnnnggggggg. That shift doh. There is a very warm and special place in my heart for this color. It was one of the first samples I bought when I got into indie makeup, and I use it all the time because it just works. It's not too blue or too gold, and when I put it on it looks subtle enough that my friends won't ask why my eyelids are blue. I would seriously recommend this color to all newbies, and even oldies who haven't tried it out yet!!!
I'll Move That For You
Blackened amethyst with bright purple sparkle
This one right here man. It's my go to liner because it has just the right amount of sparkle and not too much fallout. I could never see myself getting anything bigger than a sample though because I literally just use it for liner. And it does a damn good job at it.
Lingered in Twilight
A twilit forest: blackened blue and green tones with slightly metallic shimmer
Another favorite liner. If it was just a bit lighter I could see myself using it on my eyes, but I kind of like the blackened background on it, it just gives it that kind of foresty feeling.
Freebies/Other Samples
(Potato quality; super sorry)
Snake (Discont.)
Bright, lightly shimmery chartreuse
I never really knew what color chartreuse is, but I guess I really do like it. I really want to do an all green eye look with this, Forever a Loan, and Lingered in Twilight. I feel like I would look like a crazy leprechaun woman, but who cares what anybody else things?
Mushroom (Discont.)
Shimmery coppery-orange with a hint of golden sparkle
This one is pretty hard to swatch. As you can tell I didn't quite get the best lighting for the picture, and I did try many times, but it swatches a bit more pink than it looks in the baggie. It's a really pretty color, and I'm glad I picked it up before it was discontinued.
Courtier
Light matte tan base with subtle silvery flecks
MY ULTIMATE EVERYDAY SHADOW!! I don't know why I never purchased it before this order, but I might have to go back for a full size the next time I order because I can see myself getting a decent amount of use out of it.
Always Angry: Finishing Powder
Translucent green-tinted powder helps counter the appearance of redness
I have never tried a finishing powder before, because I normally don't have a ton of time to do face makeup in the morning, but I really feel like this finishing powder is great for covering up those really annoying red spots I get on my face sometimes, and I don't normally even put on any sort of foundation before or after, and it does stay on all day.
Chimera
Looks coppery in the jar, then applies as tarnished gold and silver shimmer over a blackened background
(Found in Warm Neutral Sample Pack)
Apparatus
Pale grey with spectral lavender shimmer
I never knew that it was supposed to be a pale grey before I read the description today, and I have had this color for like six months... Apparatus is such a unique color, and it doesn't always pair nice with every other color, but it is just so nice overall and works wonderfully for those days when I just need a little extra umph.
Overall Thoughts
This was a great Anniversary haul for me, and I was really pleased with the majority of my stuff. This purchase has pushed me to expand my thoughts and limits concerning colors. I'm so excited to try out all of these colors, and am already looking forward to my next purchases from Shiro!!
